[SCA-AE] A Camping Question from a Camping Novice

Greetings,
We have had a couple of Panther tents and never had a problem with water
coming in down the tent poles. We have discussed using a swimming
noodle by cutting slices from it and slipping them over the spike under
the rope. A good friend of ours came up with the best portable clothing
racks I have ever seen. They are 2 different sizes of electrical
conduit that slide into each other. The ends were mashed and holes
drilled into them. They are put in opposite corners of the tent
diagonally. Each end of the rack is placed on the 1st perimeter pole
each side of the corner. The 2 pieces of conduit slide into each other
so if there is any tent sway from the wind they move with it. It makes
the tent more stable and we have great clothing storage. Actually we use
one as clothing storage and hang curtains from the other and have a very
nice sized hidden storage area for our more mundane stuff. Because we
have slant walls the clothes do not touch the tent walls and there is no
wicking from the canvas. I think this can be made to work for a
straight walled tent as well.

I discussing the concern of rain water flowing down the tent poles, someone suggested that they knew someone who had cut leather disc that fit over the spike of the tent pole, thus covering the open grommet.? It was suggested that when the leather got wet, it would swell and seal the opening even more.

(I at first thought to use veggie tanned leather. I have soaked veggie tan leather to make projects that needed to be shaped and hardened.? The stain left in the water I soaked it in is not something I would want on my new tent.)
