[SCA-AE] A Camping Question from a Camping Novice

Hello!
I had one of the large Marquis for 8 Pennsics. I had finials on each of the
poles, that worked very well. They weren't anything fancy, just a short
piece of dowelled wood, painted to look pretty. The only problem I ever had
with water was that it pooled on the corners near the end of war when the
canvas had relaxed a bit. Just keep those ropes tightened, especially on
the corners! A word of caution about wind however! I had several close
calls with huge wind gusts coming in my door when the flap was open and
causing the whole pavilion to puff up and allowing the center beam to be
freestanding for the duration of the gusts. On one such occasion, one side
went in one direction and the other the opposite, snapping the center beam!
When my brother Sir Wulfstan returned to camp he called out for duct tape
and "fixed" the center beam. He and Lord Patrick (the lost) then devised a
method of using rope to "chicken wire" criss cross support on the inside of
the pavilion to minimize sway should this happen again. It never did. When
Sir Wulfstan made me a new center beam before the next war he also made me
two little pedistals for the bottom of each supporting beam to raise them up
two inches, insuring that the entire pavilion would be more taut in the
future. This probably won't be a problem for you until your pavilion is a
very old saggy baggy elephant, however. Mine was 12 years old when this
happened! Long Live the Panther! Mine is still in use, as a common shade
by my household, and it's 16 years old!
