Our fine Salty friend Calvert(or Stephen Blood)is quite right in his
explaining of the Pirate Festival. Information about the festival can be
found at the following url: ww.olcott-newfane.com/index.php just click on
the events link at the top of the page and then to July to find the general
info. As for what we do there, well...

We do not go representing the SCA. Our household has a 16 foot float
resembling a wharf that some ride on dressed in all manner of pirate garb
and get to pelt the crowd with goodies from. The rest of us walk and free
style fence along the float down the parade route. The crowd just loves it!
There are some professional Pirate Troops as well as bands hired by the
Olcott-Newfane town to entertain during the full weekend of the festival.
The festival was organized to raise funds for its Fire Company. After the
parade everyone is invited to our ranch property not far away for BBQ and
sometimes open practices for fencing, fighting, thrown weapons, archery
manifest themselves or people just play lawn games and relax. We usually
have a good turn out for the weekend fun because it is open to any one who
wants to join in. Not everyone wants to march in the parade, so there are
usually people doing non parade things at the ranch at the same time. Let me
know if'n yer interested in joinin' us! More do every year because the cost
to new comers is a dish to share during the BBQ or breakfast fixin's if'n ya
camps over.
