Aside from the Pirate Festival not being an SCA event...

I suspect that the reason there have been more overlaps in events as the years progress has a great deal to do with there being more and more SCA groups in the kingdom, but  the same number of weekends in a year. It's the outcome of a positive thing, growth!

To help avoid some of those overlaps, some very wonderful people in the kingdom have developed an entire web page of Event Planning resources:

http://aethelmearc.org/eventplanning/

This contains a history of all the events in the kingdom and when traditional events usually fall in the calendar. It's a great resource for figuring out when to hold your event in relation to other events. 

But there will always be some amount of overlap, since we're a vibrant and populous Kingdom.
