I am fortunate in that I have a teenager to watch my little one, be it an event/practice, or at home, if you don't have someone, then leave your armour, or what ever you do, at home, if you are not willing to actually be the parent to the child you created."
It's that simple folks.
No sniping invovled, no rudeness to be interpreted, just the simple truth that should be common sense."

Well Said Lady Giovanna.
I am just sitting here shaking my head in disbelief that this even needs to be discussed as much as it has been.
Let's try this situation - you're at a big amusement park - full of rides and games and lots and lots of people. Would you let your children under 12 roam free at Hershey Park, Great Adventure, Disneyland? I don't think so. Do you let them take off at the Mall, the supermarket, walmart? How about those of you that live in big cities - do you let them roam the streets of NYC, Philadelphia, Boston Alone? Even little towns - do you let you kids take off to main street by themselves (again - under 12). You don't - so why would you do it at an event - big or small - which - if you think about - other than the different costume - is similar to all the scenarios I've discussed.
The SCA is no different - your tent is your house, your camp - the neighborhood - the other camps - the great big world. Would you let your kids under 12 out of the neighborhood? Probably not.
Your kids - until they are 18 are your responsibility - it's the law. That means - no matter what - you, as the parent - are responsible. Children are a precious gift - are you soo willing to leave your prized possessions out for anyone to grab? Would you leave your truck on the street with keys in it, the alarm disabled and the door locked? Do you leave your money lying around for anyone to grab? Do you leave your house full of nice things unlocked and unprotected? Then why leave your children unsupervised - PERSONALLY BY YOU AS A PARENT or BY A RESPONSIBLE OLDER Guardian or Babysitter? Would you go out on a Friday nite and leave the kids under 12 home alone? No you wouldn't. This is No different.
Again - with respect
Sabine
