Drew asked:
If there was say that large room and there were three different tables
with three different adults teaching the Halflings and there was only
one person with the Background Check BC as an overseer. And say one of
these adults reaches over and gropes a Halfling while no other adult is
looking. Does that mean that the person with the BC acting as the
overseer is held accountable for that child being groped?
Answer: The Two Deep rule still applies, even if someone with a Check
is present. In this unlikely situation, I'm sure the authorities would
know how to proceed. I can't see how both adults would be held
responsible for the actions of one, but I'm not a lawyer or a judge.
Drew asked:
By the way, what is out there to protect the adults from false
accusations? Is the society going to help anyone with or without the
BC legally if there was a false report made since it would be
happening at one of there events or demos? Lets face is, not all kids
out there are angles.
Answer: The Two-Deep rule is there to protect adults. One of the
reasons we adopted this rule in Æthelmearc long before it was
implemented society-wide is to protect the adults as much as the
children. We are a non-profit, volunteer organization. We obviously
can't offer free legal protection to all our members.
These types of situations are possible with or without implementing the
Background Checks. The Two-Deep rule is very more effective at
preventing this type of thing, which is why I'm stressing it so
strongly.
I'm getting emails with all kinds of stories, some personal, some "I
have a friend..." telling me about children being abused, false reports,
false accusations by adults for personal reasons, actual abusers
convincing people that the reports were false for personal reasons...
this is an emotional topic with all kinds of pitfalls.
Regardless of our personal opinions on the topic, the BoD has instituted
these rules. We need to follow them for our own safety and the safety
of our children.
Please take the time to read the Youth Activities menu at
http://aethelmearc.org/downloads/Seneschal/youth_activities_memo.pdf
I expect these rules to be followed at all times.
