That rule may vary from state to state. These days in NYS, all new
hires get a background check performed. Those who are still around from
the days before background checks (i.e., who have been in their current
district for over 15 years or so) may or may not have had a background
check.

However, in the general operation of a school, the "two-deep" rule is
generally waived (there do not have to be two teachers/adults in a
classroom at all times).

If the SCA does an educational demo at a school, the teacher should be
present throughout, thus covering the school's liability exposure (to an
extent), and the SCA participant should be covered, too. Does the SCA
participant need to have a background check to run a demo? I don't
think so, but then, I'm not person deciding.
