If an actual teacher, who happens to be in the sca, has a demo or is teaching a little history, in the class room, as per a federal law, they have to have a backround check and a child abuse certificate, on file, and current, with their school district. You cannot teach in a school if you do not have this.
Why would you hold a demo, on school grounds, after school is over?
Your friend, with the club, is the club sca sanctioned? Is it covered under the sca insurance?
Do parents have to quit their jobs, just so they can attend a demo in their child's school? I don't think so, it's in a school, with other adults, and no one should be unsupervised, in the classroom, school usually have one or more teachers in there with you.
Maybe parents need to keep an eye on their own children, at any sca sanctioned, function, of any kind, period.
My local Minister of Youth, is not my personal, FREE, babysitter, it's my job, as a parent, to know where my child is, and who they are with, and it's my job to make sure I can see them, in any and all activities they parttake in, why?.....Because I am Their Parent.
When do we get back to common sense?

ULP - but what about those of us that are teachers, and are the ones
bringing in the SCA - to do this with us, because we ARE SCA? Or we
go into someplace else in the school and are running an SCA demo on
our own, because we are SCA and we are there?
I do it all the time - go to a different classroom, and teach
something about history - and oh, yeah, that's because I am in the
SCA, and what we are, and here is why I enjoy it.
And there often, especially after school, no other adult there but me.
And I know of someone else in our group, the next school district
over, who had so much interest he started a club - he was the only
adult there.
So if I run the demo, or AM the demo, I need to be warranted?
Something seems really, really strange here.
I know I am dealing with my elderly mother who can warp my mind as she
loses hers, but this seems really ridiculously complicated. HOw many
of us have to agree to background checks, which is letting someone
have our personal info, and in which we have to agree to let them look
at our lives - and HOPE they honor the agreement to only look at part
of it, and nver have it stolen from them or let it out? Sorry, too
much is passed around out there, or gets stolen from such services,
for me to feel comfortable with this. I can see the necessity of the
SCA doing a CYA on one on one activities, but on a DEMO ? Or other
school activities?

And
Demos are more of a gray area. If we are attending a demo at a school,
the teacher is in charge of the children and we are guests.
