Good Gentles,

I've been getting lots of questions about the upcoming background
checks.  I thought I would share some of the more frequently asked
questions, along with the answers I have so far.

Please feel free to ask more.  

1)  Who needs a check?

	Warranted youth officers who are directing youth-specific
activities.  This includes Youth activities, Youth Fencing, Youth
Fighting.  Archery is both youth and adult, so we just need to make sure
we have the two-deep rule being followed.  Same for any other activity
that includes both adults and children.

2)  When is implementation?

	Forms will go out on February 15th to all group Youth officers,
Youth Marshals and Youth Fencing Marshals.  These people have four weeks
to return the forms to the vendor.  Forms for At-Large officers will
follow soon after.

3)  How do I get a background check?

	If you are a warranted youth officer (read that to include Youth
marshals of both types as well as regular youth activities officers) you
will be receiving the paperwork shortly after February 15th from me.  If
you are not a warranted youth officer, but would like to be one, contact
the appropriate Regional or Kingdom youth officer or marshal to
volunteer!  They will discuss the office requirements with you and get
your information to me for the check.

4)  How much do they cost?

	The cost to the SCA is $14 with half being paid by Milpitis and
half being paid by the Kingdom.  We have no mechanism in place for you
to pay for your own, but if you are moved to donate money to the
Kingdom, please don't let me stop you!

5)  What information is needed by the vendor?

	The forms that will go directly to the vendor (NOT TO ME!) ask
for your name, social security number, drivers license number and
addresses for the past 7 years.  The vendor is NOT going to check your
credit or old parking tickets; this is a limited background check.

6)  What if I fail the check?

	You will get notified by the vendor with information on how to
appeal.  If there are errors in the records, it will be good to get them
straightened out!  The records kept by the Kingdom Seneschal will only
include the pass information, not the fail.


Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have.  I know this is
uncomfortable for many of us.  I want to make sure all your concerns are
addressed to the best of my ability.
