Unto all of AEthelmearc, Greetings!

At Pennsic this year I discussed with other members of the Royal Guild
of Aethelmearc Metalsmiths the idea of how best to do a project that
many members of the guild could work together on that would benefit our
Sylvan Kingdom, and showcase some of the skills of our metalworking
community. The idea we came up with was to do a metal gateway and gate
for AE Royal encampment. I posted a design sketch competition on the
metalsmiths list, and so far have received no responses, so Baroness
Clarice and I are extending the invitation to all of AEthelmearc.

The rough concept is to have a hammer-in at Barony Wars in June to
build the arch and supporting sections, then next year build the gate
itself.
What we need now to get this project moving is a design.
I was talking with Baroness Clarice of Delftwood, and she is
willing to donate a bottle of handmade cordial to the person submitting
the design sketch we base the gateway on. Documentable design is good if
possible, but as most exterior portal design was done in the interests
of fortification,it was usually done as stone with a metal sheathed
solid wood door. most documentable openwork metal fence and gate
structures would be late period interior or urban, so if you come up
with something that looks really good, but you can't document it, submit
it anyway.

 SOOOOOOO

Please doodle, draw, draft, whatever concept sketches for the AE royal
gateway, the logistical details as far as construction, disassembly
can be worked out later, at this stage they are relatively
unimportant. I would like this project to be something which shows off
all of the many different metalsmithing talents in AEthelmearc.

Please get designs to me before Ice Dragon so that we can submit them
for Royal opinion and approval.

The working parameters are: center opening 7 feet wide, and 7-8 feet
high in the center, 2 "fence" sections on either side with ground
anchor braces and/or offset placement for stability.
Assembly and disassembly should be managable by 2 average sized guys
in August weather with 1 pickup truck for transport 1 time in each
 direction with minimal tools.
