Well. when I was 14 I became the combat archery
marshal for my group.  When I was 15, I became the
range (target archery) marshal for my group.  When I
became 16 and was able to (and did) authorize in
"heavy" (sword and shield)combat.. and I became deputy
knight marshal for my group.

At various times from the time I was 16 thru 18, I
held various deputy officer positions and/or different
officer positions.  In my canton and in my barony. 
Usually multiple positions/offices at the same time.
Everything from the marshal ones to baronial herald,
historian, etc.. even chronicler for several months
until we could find a better one.  :)

I believe I was 16, I also became deputy kingdom
combat archery marshal.

I have known youth who have held group offices. 
Really, it all depends on maturity level and who else
in the group is also interested, willing and capable
of doing a good job.  IMO, that's better decided on
the individual level, rather then by age alone.  

Exception being seneschale and exchequre positions,
which for legal reasons likely should be adults.

Otherwise, I believe giving our youth a chance to show
that they are responsible.. and something worthwhile
to do, other then "children activities" (which most of
our teenagers do not want to do) is good on many
levels.  Even holding a "deputy" position can be a
good thing :) Let's use some of that youthful energy
and see what they can do.  :)

Some sites can give additional discounts for members. 
That was a common thing for many years when I started
in the SCA, which now seems to have gone away with the
non member surcharge.  

So, some benefits.. but not as many as I would like to
see.
