[SCA-AE] Memberships for Kids

Needing to renew my membership soon, plus all the recent talk of
children's activities & waivers, got me thinking about just what the
benefits to having Family Memberships might be.
If I understand this correctly, one must have a 'Primary' member at
the $35 Sustaining membership, then add family members at $10 apiece
with a cap at $25. As it does not specify minors only, it must also
apply to adult children & spouses as well. So this could be a
tremendous savings if you include a spouse or more than 2 children...
(So no benefit for me there...)
Must one actually be married to, a relative, or merely reside at same
address to be considered 'Family' eligible?
Having membership saves you from paying the $3 Non-Member Surcharge
fee at events, but as children's fees are nearly always discounted
this does not happen anyway.
I am pretty sure (kindly correct me if I am wrong) that having SCA
Membership does not give any discount to the $20 kids pay to attend
Pennsic War...
Minors are not allowed to participate in some Martial activities (and
thus prevented from becoming King or Queen), but presumably they may
serve in other Offices should the populace & Seneschal approve - so
having a Membership would be necessary for that.
(Out of curiosity, does anyone know of an instance where this has
occurred?)
I know (very well) that having blue membership cards for the kids
would save me from having to fill out waivers for them at each event
they attend.
However, unless I am missing something, I really don't see any other
advantage to paying the extra money to get my two children memberships...
Thoughts, comments...?
