Stormsport’s Winter Event

The Shire of Stormsport will host its annual winter event on March 1st,
2008. This year we have a new site, St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, 9
Third Avenue, Union City, PA 16438. The site opens at 9am and closes at
9pm. The theme for this year’s event is love- yes, this can be romantic
love, or courtly love, but we mainly want to focus on our love of
Æthelmearc, of the Society and of the Dream. Join us for fun and
feasting, and share with us what you love to do.

Heavy weapons fighters will compete to determine the winners of both a
bear pit and a double elimination tournament. The bear pit will begin as
soon as the second round of the double elimination tournament has ended.
Whoever has the best performance in both tournaments will be declared
the overall victor.

There will be an arts and sciences competition for those wishing to show
what they love in a more gentle fashion. A winner will be chosen by vote
of the populace, plus there will be a King’s Choice and Queen’s Choice.
For bards, musicians, dancers, or those who just wish to shout their
love out loud, we will have the Declarations of Love; a competition to
be held during feast, to not only show everyone what or who you love,
but to entertain the populace and Their Royal Majesties as well. The
winner of the Declarations will be chosen by the Royals present. There
will be prizes for the winners of all the day’s competitions.

There will be a sideboard lunch available to everyone. Feast is limited
to 60 gentles, so please reserve early. Any allergy or dietary concerns
can be directed to the kitchen steward, Tracie of Stormsport (Tracie
Whitney), at 814-459-6111, traciewhitney at yahoo.com (please include FEAST
in the subject line). There will also be tables set aside for those who
wish to stay for the Declarations of Love but do not want to partake of
the feast.

The day will begin with Their Royal Majesties’ Curia, which will be
followed by a morning Court. An evening Court will also be held.

We plan to have dancing, merchants, a silent auction, and a few classes
as well. Anyone wishing to teach a class or merchant at the event, or
anyone with questions or requests, can contact the event steward, Lord
Caelan Ó Ruairc (Randy Hurlburt), 21 Perry St., Union City, PA 16438,
caelanoruairc at verizon.net, 814-438-9355.

Site fees for the event are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children ages
5-12, and children under 5 are free. This includes a sideboard lunch. An
additional $3.00 non-member surcharge will be collected at the door.
Feast fees are $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 5-12. Please send
reservations to Lady Ciara O'Crotaigh (Char Smith), 1007 W. Grandview
Blvd, Erie, PA 16509, charsmith at verizon.net. Please make checks payable
to SCA, Inc. – Shire of Stormsport. Please specify if you are On-board,
Off-board, or neither.

The site is wet, but no open flames, please.
