Since we’re on Aethelmearc history, this Sunday marks the 18th
anniversary of the First Coronet Tournament, held in Thescorre. The
wind, the rain, the hurricane (named Hugo, btw).

And, this past July marks the 18th anniversary of the following BoD
meeting (22 July 1989):

b. Principality Petition, Western East Kingdom:

The Seneschal of the East had forwarded an impressive and enthusiastic
petition for a new principality in the western East Kingdom. The
proposed
principality includes western New York, western Pennsylvania, and West
Virginia (zip codes 130xx-167xx, and 247xx-265xx). The Seneschal and
Heirs of the East wrote to express their support for the petition. The
East Kingdom has become very large, and a new principality will benefit
both the group and the kingdom in many ways. The proposed laws and slate
of officers were discussed. The group proposes 23 September 1989 as the
date for the first Coronet Lists, with the first Investiture to follow
on
2 December 1989.

The Board discussed various possibilities. They are happy to grant
the petition, but the lack of a registered name is a problem. After a
good deal of discussion, it was agreed that the 1984 ("green") Corpora
is
in effect as this item is under discussion, and that all decisions
should
be made in reference to it, rather than to the new version (scheduled
for
discussion later in the meeting, but not yet approved). During the
discussion,
Alan made a motion to approve which failed for a lack of second.
Cecelia made a motion, seconded by Joe, to table until after the
discussions
on the new Corpora had been completed. After further discussion,
this motion failed unanimously.

The Board agreed that the petition package was excellent and displayed
great unanimity among the peoples of the western East Kingdom. They
hoped
that Laurel's schedule would permit consideration of the recently
submitted
second name before the scheduled tourney, or that an agreement
could be worked out to register the principality's arms under a "holding
name" while another name was processed. In any case, they agreed to vote

on the merits of the principality petition as presented.

> M/s/c (unanimously) Alan-Cecelia that the petition to create this
> principality is approved, and to authorize the first Coronet tourney
and
> Investiture on the scheduled dates.

BTW, the issue about the name arose when the Laurel Sovreign returned
the name, “The Lakes” earlier that year. The name “ethelmearc” was
subsequently submitted & approved by Laurel in Agust of 1989.

Let us celebrate our history by learning more of it!
