To those who do not know us I apologize for the
bandwith. I know that those who do know us and read
this will want to send comments but I ask you send
them to us privately so as not to clog up peoples
email inboxes. We can be reached either at baron @ or
baroness @ wnysca.org. To anyone who knows "the
ending" of this story already just wanted to let you
know the word is out so you can stop whispering.
This past Saturday in the Barony of the Rhydderich
Hael his Excellency William (that would be me!) told
the following story during the bardic competition of
Our Baronial Champs (okay... I may have embellished it
a LITTLE when I typed it up).
In a beautiful Kingdom, for the sake of our story we
will call AEthelmearc, a wise mother and father lived
happily and brought forth to the Barony of the
Rhydderich Hael five children. Being of minor
nobility and little wealth they did not wish to see
the children fighting each other, or worse, for the
pittance that would be theirs. The father decided he
must separate the children to prevent and heated
discussions involving who inheritance and title would
pass to.
The eldest son went to the Barony of Thescorre where
he became a constable. The second son went to the
Shire of Herontir where he became a carpenter. The
two daughters
. well, who worries about daughters
.
well just marry them off somewhere. The final son,
who for the purpose of our story we will call William,
was put into the service of a Knight to learn the art
of war
. because lets face it, when you live between
the Kingdoms of the East and Midrealm War always seems
to be at your doorstep.
William did what all good squires do, he studied and
tried to learn how not to get dead in combat, he
studied the flavors, textures and effects of assorted
ales, meads and spirits, and he pursued the affections
of lovely ladies. Somehow, though to this day he is
uncertain HOW this came to be, he found a beautiful
lady who captured his heart and agreed to be with him
forever. An amazing feet given that some days he
cant tolerate being around himself (especially after
a long day in armor!) much less understand why such a
gentle, caring creature would want to spend time with
him!
In a literary twist of fate involving the democratic
feudal system we follow William and his lady wife
became Baron & Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael. After
some time the advisors to Their Excellencies became
concerned as the nursery remained empty. Their
Excellencies assured Their advisory that they were
doing everything they could to no avail. They
consulted those who claimed to know the workings of
the human body (better known as witches who should be
burned!), wise men, fortunate tellers and one man
named Scratch that they met at a crossroads waiting
for someone to teach him how to play a small metal
tube he called a har
moni
ka?? But thats a different
story.
Soon they discovered in the Midrealm a group of people
who were trading with those in a far away Kingdom
called Guatemala. It seems that in an attempt to
ensure the relationship between our fair lands in the
north and those we trade with in the Kingdom or
Guatemala they were looking to place an orphaned son
of a family from the Kingdom with a couple in Fair
AEthelmearc.
Now the process may sound simple but William & his
loving wife soon discovered that the populace of the
Kingdom of Guatemala needed reassurance that the child
they agreed to allow to be raised in Fairest
AEthelmearc would be loved and well cared for. Their
Excellencies sent many speedy messengers to the
Midrealm to receive guidance from those who had told
them of this little boy. From the advise they
received they went to friends, families and Their
Majesties officiates for assistance in documenting why
they would be good parents to this young boy from the
Kingdom of Guatemala. After receiving many letters
and visiting many officials to get the Seals of the
Rhydderich Hael and AEthelmearc William and his wife
were advised that the documents should be sent to our
neighbors in the Kingdom of the East so they may
attest that the documents truly contain the Seal of
the Officials of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael
within the Kingdom of AEthelmearc. Messengers
traveled great distances to ensure the documents made
it safely to and from the East. Once received the
parchments with the Seals of the Barony of the
Rhydderich Hael, AEthelmearc and those from the
Kingdom of the East attesting to the fact that the
Seals of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael within
AEthelmearc are correct were forwarded to an
ambassador from the Court of the Kingdom of Guatemala
who resides in the East to aid citizens of the Kingdom
who may travel to the East. Once all the paperwork
was returned Their Excellencies dispatched the fastest
courier they had on the fastest horse to the Midrealm
where the documentation was presented to an agent for
forwarded to the Officials of the Kingdom of
Guatemala.
IF all goes well and all the documents are reviewed
and accepted by the Officials of the Kingdom of
Guatemala William and Kiersey will travel great
distances this winter and will be bringing home a son
that they will forever call Nicholas around the
Holidays. Warm thoughts, well wishes and prayers
always welcome.
