I've never had a garment stained from handwashing in Cooper water. I've handwashed linen, cotton, and cotton blends. I don't handwash a lot, only a few pieces when absolutely necessary, I don't let the garment soak in the water for a long time, and I do wash everything again once we get home.

Pennsic and do not plan to wash anything at all.
Yes, there is a laundry at Pennsic, but it is very small and
there are over 10,000 people at Pennsic with you.
You can minimize the amount of clothing that you need to bring
by remembering that you do not have to
change all of your layers whenever you change clothes. Further,
linen underclothes (innermost tunics that
sort of thing) can be hand washed in that basin that people
already recommended for dishes and line dried
in your camp. Yes, they may be stained orange as a result, but
these are clothes that people don't see and
which are the ones which get skanky first. >>>>>
