Actually, the Principal did offer the re-take option... or made it a
demand, more accurately.  The young man chose not to comply.

Beyond that, I have no strong opinion on the matter.  Having been a
teacher in the 70's, I recall one yearbook photo wherein a student made
the peace sign... the district/principal forbade it to be published...
overly political.  There were other, far more graphic examples...girls
in see-thru blouses sans bras, black power salutes, etc.  It all makes
this current one both nostalgic & insignificant.
