[SCA-AE] Research Questions

This is a complicated question that is frequently bantered about on Western Martial Arts discussion groups. Much ink and ill will have been spilled over this topic. The whole thing boils down to both European and Japanese armor, weapons and training being adequately effective. The 'knight vs. samurai' and 'duelist vs. samurai' discussions that are so popular are pretty much mental masturbation. Context and individual skill are the keys in this debate, not the technological merits of the culture.

That being said, the evolution of the weapons and armor are interesting points of comparison. I would be happy to help with resources on the evolution of the European weaponry (in particular civilian swords) but am pretty much useless for harness or any of the Japanese equipment.

Warm regards,

Christian de Launey

Subject: [SCA-AE] Research Questions

Greetings unto the list.

I was recently asked by a young friend of mine if I might be able to
help him out with some research he needs for a school project. I told
him that the most I can do is pass along the questions to those who
would know better then I.

I figured that someone on this list would probably be able to answer
some of these questions. I'd like to get some good solid information
to get him by this time next week. It is a school project after all.
