Hmm... maybe the rest of us should wear the "cracked egg" badges and 
the newcomers get a "whole egg"? :)

I very much agree with the "we are all chatelaines" philosophy.  And 
if that's true then aren't we all mentors too?  Or is the chatelaine 
only supposed to help the newcomer get through the door?  I always 
thought that chatting with them a little, finding out their interests 
so that they can be introduced to others with like 
interests/specialties, and generally following up to find out if they 
need further info or assistance was part of the job... (it's what I 
do with newbies who find or get directed to me)

Of course, I know that not everyone subscribes to the "we're all 
chatelaines" philosophy, so perhaps what we need is a badge that can 
be worn by those who are willing to help newcomers.  The Chatelaine's 
badge may be appropriate only to those actually holding the office, 
but is there something similar?  Or is that what we should be talking 
about making?  Something like a "cracked egg"? :)
