[SCA-AE] The use of "Troll"

Like Tollner? A very period term for exactly the function.

And while we are at it, let's also do away with the variants on "crat" -
feast-o-crat, class-o-crat, etc. Ick! Head cook?! Chancellor.

Autocrat, by the way, is a perfectly fine word for the task of running
an event.

Subject: [SCA-AE] The use of "Troll"

Well, it's time for another diatribe from the loud mouthed Viking. ...

I've been in this fine Sylvan Kingdom for 3 years now, and I still
cringe when I hear people call the gate at an event "troll"

After all, when you look towards gate, what do you commonly see?
Beautiful, wonderous, and helpful gentles assisting people, including
NEW COMERS !!!

We as a society have made leaps and bounds towards a more period
naming of numerous jobs.
Feast-o-crat or cook-o-crat. this is usually cringed at, and head cook
is being used more often than not.
parking-o-crat -- eww. again, parking coordinator and other terms are
in use now.

Seneschal ... this is thankfully in use over the term that I heard a
number of years ago "The head guy". hmmm. does that mean that he was a
head hunter?

We have Chatelaine's, and Gold Key, and Hospitallers...
Yet we still have people insisting on using the term "Troll"

We don't drive through a TROLL booth, we drive through a toll booth,
so why do we check in with the "troll"?

Please everyone, talk to your local groups, talk to your Kingdom
officers, let's kill the term "Troll" once and for all, and use
something more befitting the excellent lords and ladies that assist at
all of our events, making sure that our funds are accounted for, feast
seats are sold (but not over sold), and providing useful information to
our new comers who are in search of where to begin.

In service, and in hopes of a more meaningful language in our Society
for Creative Anachronisms.
