Per the library of thinkquest.com,  all living things
must have the following characteristics:

1.  composed of cells
2.  require energy
3.  capable of reproduction
4.  display heredity
5.  respond to stimuli
6.  maintain homeostasis
7.  Adapt to environment.

Now, I do not know the individual in question, so I
will leave it to others to determine how well he fits
the characteristics :)
