I think that it depends on the school. My son attends a Catholic school and
I am required to have Pennsylvania Child Abuse History and Criminal Back
Ground Checks to be a Band chaperone. These cost me $10 each and take about
a month each to get. We are always having problems geting enough chaperones
for the games. The Diocese also has a required class/certification for
child abuse protection that has a monthly online update to stay current. I
am also a Boy Scout leader and have to attend a three hour Youth Protection
workshop (or online class) at least every two years. No one has yet
required me to obtain the new Federal certification that is required for the
teachers.
