[SCA-AE] Re: Thoughts on Crown Tourneys

Greetings to all,
I see no problem with the Prince/Princess setting some limits
(obviously ones that do not violate modern laws or SCA laws/rules) on
who can enter their Crown Tournament. I trust that Their Highnesses
will help ensure their heirs will be capable of and willing to give up
so much of their lives, for the better part of a year, for the rest of
us. Asking for the letters of recommendation is simply one way to
attempt this. Remember, whoever becomes the next Prince and Princess
will be expected to lead and command not only every AEthelmearc peer,
but every AEthelmearc citizen. Finding 3 peers to agree a candidate can
do so is in my mind nothing compared to that.
Also, in regards to what Sir Aengus mentioned about entering Crown
Tournament vs another tournament: To me the big difference is that the
prize for winning Crown is that you bear a large responsibility to other
people that lasts almost an entire year. Agreeing to risk taking on
that kind of load should not be done just to get experience in fighting
the top people - not all of whom will always fight in a Crown
Tournament. There is an easier way to seek them out - look for fights
at events or practices like I do. :)

sincerely,
 Clewin Kupferhelbelinc, BMDL
