I think the recommendations are a great way to acquaint yourself with
members of the peerage.  We've all had a few months notice with which
to go out and find 3 peers.  It was not cumbersome for me to do so...I
rather enjoy getting to know people anyway.  This requirement merely
gave me more incentive to approach both the peers that I do know and
highly respect, and to seek out peers that I have not had the chance
to meet yet.  I understand that I am more outgoing than many people,
and that approaching others is problematic for some.  But let's be
honest, the SCA *is* a social group.  If you are too afraid to
approach a peer, is running a reign really a viable option?  Not to
mention, I have yet to meet a peer who will bite your head off just
for introducing yourself...alright, maybe one...
