I really take offense to the above statement. My Art has nothing to do
with my fighting. Do I have less of a Laurel because my chosen medium
is metal? Would it be more valid if I made table wear? I make armour
because I love to do it, not because I'm a Knight. Properly made armour
of the later centuries won't work for SCA fighting. Should I stop making
it because it would be useless to me as a SCA Knight?
When I joined this group I set two very separate goals: One to become a
Knight and two to become an armourer. They were very separate paths in
my mind. One was to study and modern art form ( SCA martial arts) and
the other was to study a very real medieval art form (armouring).
Would you discount a clothing Laurel in such a manner if their specialty
was undergarments that were be used in the arming of a Knight. I think
not.
Sorry if I sound snippy - but that statement really pushes my buttons.
