[SCA-AE] question regarding knife laws in NY

I am a bladesmith in upstate NY. I periodically ask police officers that I know, and people who work in the legal profession what the laws are (and to provide me copies of the laws) From what I have gathered from these sources over the years double edged blades of any length are not illegal to manufacture, own, sell, or carry in a lawful manner. You don't want to get caught doing some sort of crime while carrying any sort of blade because then it is considered a dangerous weapon and becomes an
accessory charge. Switchblades, gravity knives, sword canes, shiriken, etc. are illegal, period. Swords, daggers, dirks etc. are only illegal in the context of use in committing a crime. If I could find my latest xerox of the weapons laws in the "loose Leaf Law Book" (the one the cops carry so that they know what to charge you with if they arrest you) I would quote it to you, but I can't put my hands on it at the moment. It is always a good idea to actually confirm with a lawyer, I am not one,
and have never played one on TV, but in 15 years of keeping track of the knife laws in NY I have yet to find a prohibition on long blades, double edged blades, or any combination therof.
Where in NY are you potentially moving to? BTW I have recently started a metalsmiths guild in AEthelmearc, email me privately if you would like an invite to our yahoogroup.

He is a custom bladesmith, and has been reading the various laws pertaining to the ownership and carrying of double bladed weapons, and is very distressed to read that all are outlawed. Since 99% of his work is quality reproduction of period blades, this would essentially mean he would not be able to ply his trade.
