Significant though the date might be, and by whatever sentiments you
and others might have, it is, in point of fact, and remains
unquestionably, a message which is not "concerning the Kingdom of
AEthelmearc" as is this list's stated focus. Minimally the OP should
have marked the thread off topic. ("[OT]" in the subject, as I've
marked this post, even though it could be considered topical, since it
concerns the list's guidelines.)

People read this list to get information about AEthelmearc.
Sentiments/discussion of charity, patriotism (except to the kingdom),
religion, computer viruses, etc are all better sent to lists which
concern those topics, or to individual for whom you personally would
like to give that information. It's nice to think: "the list is
like my family and i care for them and feel my topic is important to
all of them".... but if that were the case then you would know the
email address of the 400 so odd people on the list... and you should
then "BCC" them personally) Sending to a list as a whole is
extraordinarily un-courteous to the wishes of those who have chosen to
be on the list for other reasons.

While I appreciate the service of those who have served our country,
and would like to show my support for the troops, if not for the war
itself, the post should have at least made an attempt to relate it to
AEthelmearc, or added something to it, such as thanking the several
citizens of AEthelmearc who have, are, or will serve... rather than
just sending a forward of a forward. No attempt was even made to give
it a proper subject, or even clean up the post to make it readable.

This may seem to be a rather cold stance to take, but there are other
venues for this kind of discussion, and I've seen too many lists
flooded with debate, political views, etc to the point that people who
joined the list to talk about the list's purpose are driven out.

I do not want to have that happen to this list.

I want the list to remain a place for discussion concerning the
Kingdom of AEthelmearc.
