[SCA-AE] The shield arm armor

I have been fighting for ten years now (not as long as others I am sure but
it
is a while now) and I have never (no not a one, and that is not a request
for people to try) had a blow land to my elbow on my shield arm. My strap
for my shield is slung over the inside of my elbow. Additionally, I have an
inch of padding under the length of my arm as well as an elbow pad on at all
times.

This new regulation makes fighting shield awkward for me. I am going to go
the route of others and use modern sports equipment to minimize this because
my metal elbow protection has a wing on it. I do not want to shop for new
metal elbows just because of a rules change.

This ruling needs to be redefined; it was intended to protect people using
center grip shields.

It is understanable that we need to update the rules from time to time, but
there is no way we will ever be able to make a rule that will scare away
injury. We swing blunt weapons at people in rattan weapon combat.

What are the statistics for this type of injury or "danger"? Where are the
Chiurgeon reports that show a need for this new standard to be implemented?
How many people injured versus the entire number of authorized fighters in
the SCA?
