This is just as a general warning/heads up for y'all- the Binghamton,
NY, area has a head index advisory in effect today. We should have
record high temperatures + humidity. The park will have some shade, but
not entirely shaded and we may not get a good shady spot. We will try to
have plenty of ice on hand, but out of paranoia, I recommend you bring
enough to drink and dress for the weather. Hats and sunscreen are likely
a must (please don't apply sunscreen near me). Announcement follows sig.
The park *is* open again after being completely submerged.

Regional Fight Practice Shire of Sterlynge Vayle – Binghamton, NY
July 16, 2006 Noon - ???
The Shire of Sterlynge Vayle invites our friends and neighbors to
join us for a fight practice and picnic in Otsiningo Park on Sunday,
July 16, 2006. This will be a very relaxed get together for fighting,
eating and socializing with our friends. We will begin gathering around
noon, and will go until people are tired of fighting. Please come join
us to share stories and swordplay. If you know of anyone who is
interested in checking out SCA fighting for the first time, this will be
the perfect opportunity. Please bring any loaner gear that you may have
for newcomers. This will be in a beautiful public park, so there will
probably be people wandering over to watch the fighting and maybe ask
some questions. Garb is strongly encouraged.
We will provide meats to cook on the grill – hamburgers, hot dogs,
and sausages, as well as rolls, fixings, and ice. Please bring your
picnic gear, a side dish or salad to share, and drinks. If someone
wanted to bring sweet corn or watermelon, that would be great.
This will be a very casual gathering – it is not an official SCA
event. That means no site fee, and no non-member surcharge (and no event
paperwork for the Exchequer (me) – Yea!), but we would appreciate a
modest donation to help us cover the cost of the insurance certificate
and meat.
For more information, feel free to contact me, Kayley (MKA Michele
Greenmun) at kayleyofsterlyngevayle at yahoo.com, or our Knight Marshal,
Rundwulfe (MKA Kory Greenmun) at mcgonzomkg at yahoo.com. Please drop me a
quick e-mail or give me a call at 607-621-2122 to let me know how many
are coming so we know how much meat to buy.
Directions to Otsiningo Park:
Take you best route to Binghamton by Route 81 (North or South).Take
Exit 5 (Front St.), turn left at bottom of ramp, turn left at the stop
light onto Bevier street (first light coming from the South, and second
light coming from the North), and immediately turn left into the park
(before you cross the bridge). Drive around the circle until you see
people hitting each other with sticks.
