Greetings AEthelmearc -
Did you all see that the Tournaments Illuminated is looking for an
editor and art director? They've extended the application deadlines.
MANY of you out there are *more* than qualified for the position(s)
and I would highly encourage applying. It's very good experience to
go through the process even if you do not get the job. I know for a
fact that John, the current TI Editor, is very approachable. If you
have any questions just give him a call or drop him an email.

Working for the Society and the Corporation on this level is fun and
rewarding. If you have any questions about this drop me a line. Plus
if you let me know you're applying most likely I'd be able to write
a letter of recommendation.

Good Wishes!

Positions Available Editor, Tournaments Illuminated and Art
Director, Tournaments Illuminated
Deadlines for applications extended

The Society for Creative Anachronism Inc. is accepting applications
for the positions of Editor of Tournaments Illuminated and Art
Director of Tournaments Illuminated. Tournaments Illuminated is the
SCA s quarterly publication showcasing material that furthers
research, education, and living history recreation in the field of
pre-seventeenth-century Western culture.

Tournaments Illuminated Editor
In addition to producing issues, the Editor answers queries,
develops manuscripts, maintains contact with reviewers, and submits
quarterly reports to the Board of Directors. The position requires
approximately 10+ hours per week, except during the two weeks before
publication, when more time is spent putting an issue together (this
includes proofreading, layout, correspondence, and file sharing with
authors/reviewers).

Qualifications for the position include excellent written and oral
communication skills, the ability to work independently to
prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, strong computer skills, ability
to organize a staff, familiarity with SCA publications, and a vision
for the future of Tournaments Illuminated. Experience with academic
citation styles and the ability to choose articles based on interest
to Tournaments Illuminated s audience, readability, and (where
appropriate) historical accuracy are also desirable. Professional
experience in a modern editing environment and prior experience in
an SCA chronicler position are desirable, but not required.

Tournaments Illuminated Art Director
The Art Director is responsible for the layout and design of each
issue of Tournaments Illuminated. In addition, the Art Director
maintains contact with illustration and photography contributors.
The position requires a modest weekly time commitment, except prior
to publication deadline when 30+ hours per week may be required.

Qualifications for the Art Director position include expertise with
modern magazine production, the ability to meet deadlines, and
experience working with printers. Applicants need to have access to
and experience with a computer running PageMaker, Quark or InDesign
and the ability to export files to .pdf format (if working on a PC
our printing vendor uses Macintosh computers). Professional
experience in a modern art direction environment and prior
experience in an SCA chronicler position are desirable, but not
required.

Both Positions
E-mail access is absolutely vital to the position, and while high-
speed internet access is not required, it has proven to be very
useful.

Reasonable expenses are covered by the Corporation and may include:
paper, printer cartridges, stamps, mailing expenses, and a post
office box. You will be asked to submit an expense report, with
receipts attached to receive reimbursement. The Editor and Art
Director both receive a small stipend from the SCA once an issue is
completed.

Past experience has shown that the Editor and the Art Director work
more easily together when they are in the same general locale. This
arrangement is preferable, although not required, and candidate
teams are encouraged to apply together. Individual applications will
also be considered. The Editor/Art Director can be the same person
if the candidate has all of the necessary skills.

Hard copies of risumis (both professional and medieval, including
offices held and awards received) must be sent to:
SCA Inc.
Attn: TI Editor and Art Director Positions
P.O. Box 360789
Milpitas, CA 95036-0789

Or e-mailed to: tieditor at sca.org
and a copy to the Art Director at: Linda Krecker
1501 Tramway Blvd. NE #245
Albuquerque, NM 87112
Or e-mailed to: tiart at sca.org

Electronic courtesy copies should also be sent to resumes at sca.org.

the position may be directed to John Sandstrom, Tournaments
Illuminated Editor via e-mail at tieditor at sca.org, or Linda Krecker
at tiart at sca.org.
