Hi Ashlee, all,

Here some comments from me and Marco to help improve the OEC website.
>From me:

* I like the logo. Just great!

* We need a crisp elevator pitch for the first page that explains what this website is all about, I think all agree, just need to text snippets. I'll give it a thought.

* The open edge computing vision image to the right needs polishing. One of us could do....

* I wonder whether the black background is good in the area found by scrolling down. Wouldn't white work better, as the picture were all designed to work on white background?

* The menu link "About OEC" currently leads to content that explains motivation, vision, technology. I wonder, whether people expect to find information about "the organisation" or "the initiative", i.e. who is part of it, why was it set up, since when in existence etc.
We could have a section that explains who we are, the goals of OEC. Here some proposed bullet items:

Who we are:
Carnegie Mellon University pioneered early work on Cloudlets for cloud computing at the edge. Various research partners got exposure to this work.
In summer 2015, a few parties joined efforts to accelerate and leverage this research under the banner of Open Edge Computing. For now these are CMU, Intel, Huawei and Vodafone.

Main goals:

* Leveraging Cloudlets as enabling technology.

* Driving the necessary technology and technology improvements as derived from various use cases that involve low latency and computation at the edge (e.g. extensions to OpenStack, KVM, QEMU).

* Driving prototyping of applications that leverage edge cloud computing, pushing the boundaries and demonstrating benefits.

* Driving the eco system development for Open Edge Computing. In particular socialising the concept of Open Edge Computing and benefits with the IT and application software industry.

* Engaging with target service industries/sectors through demonstrators and joint projects.

* Engaging with the relevant developer communities, seeking feedback and driving acceptance of edge cloud computing.

* Synchronising work with other efforts incl. ETSI ISG MEC and OPNFV.

So far my bits. Below ideas + thoughts from Marco with his Picasso-style of illustration attached ;-)

This are my thoughts on the OEC website and possible feedback to take to Ashley for its improvements.

As far As web design goes (see the sections A, B, C scribbled on top of above picture):

*         Spacing:

o Section A could have smaller height. Navigation links on top right should be closer to A's bottom section than top of page.

o Spacing in section B should be a lot smaller. This in combination with the previous point will create valuable space for information placeholders (mentioned further below).

* Colour scheme should be more neutral. Using the colours of the OEC logo can be maintained for the relevant areas.
I'd try:

o Section A with white background

o Dynamic information area should have a maximum of 2 colours (alternating). For this we can use both colours found on OEC logo.

o Section C should have white background

* Section C would have more space has per initial spacing recommendations:

o   I advise a division into 3 column sections within section C;

o   Social Networks links should be placed together (vertically on top of each other, see attachment for example) and on the far right;

o   Should include a short description about OpenEdgeComputing;

o Should have a Latest News/Events (possible link to Blog or Twitter widget) feed, to be placed centrally.

* Areas below the initial visible screen should be scrollable and reached through navigation on the Dynamic pane.

o Should follow a business/direct language showing the value proposition for Edge Computing in a 'pitch' format: Example is attached.

o Technical language/terms such as: Handoff, Offload, VM, etc should be avoided and only placed on the pages that further detail the mechanisms of Edge Computing.

*         Top Menu should include relevant links to: Home; About OEC;  Developers; Discussion/Forums; Resources; Contact Us;

* Section below C should have the relevant value proposition in non-technical terms:

o An example of possible approach in terms of language and message is in the attachment.

* Couldn't come up with a better key catch-phrase then: "A Cloud so close, you'll feel it's Yours."
