That is better for those situations where people have a gray-scale print / copy.

How’s this darker orange?

Ashlee,
I looked around a little bit. All similar sites have mainly a white background (OPNFV, OPENSTACK, OPENDAYLIGHT). It might be best to stick to white as the background colour? If so I would still vote for the first from the top, perhaps with the orange a bit darker for the printing…

Kind regards
Rolf.

Okay, I don’t know what I was thinking with trying to do a bunch of website iterations. Let’s try this instead. I’ve taken the two final candidates from last week and placed different backgrounds behind them. Now, obviously some of the colors will wash out completely. But I still want you to consider the background color. This is what everything is going to sit on top of— e.g., text, graphics, etc.

If there’s a general color direction that you like, but what you see isn’t quite it, just let me know.

Thanks,

Ash

Normally, I would do a reversed logo (aka white) to go onto darker backgrounds. So, I wouldn’t be overly concerned about that scenario. You’ve gotta keep in mind that going to print is going to be the biggest issue. I typically try to keep things to 2 colors vs. 4. And while I have indicated web-safe colors, we’ll ultimately want a pantone-based color for any collateral that we have produced or business cards.

Here’s quick guide to consider: http://www.dcfb.com/Pages/2-color-designs.html

O.K. #4 could be fine (from the top). To me a bit of read might be more friendly. What about #3 with the darker red from #5. That red seems to print in black and white o.k..

Attached in the presentation deck with #4 and #3.
We could also have two versions and ask the rest of the team for their views tomorrow?

What do you think?

Rolf.

I like the colours from OPNFV and Opendaylight (see below). On your selection that could be close to Dragon Bay DE5725 and Orange Jewel DEA115.

Style-wise I like the third option the most, perhaps with a different colour (the red would be quite close to VF though ;-)):

Are there any other views?

Just to get a sense for direction, can you take a look at the following comps and let me know choice of font combinations and/or colors. I’m also including a color palette for you to perhaps choose some other choices for colors. The palette is supposed to be indicative of popular 2015 color families.

Thanks,

Ash

Ashlee,
Many thanks for working on the logo matter – in spite of your overload! If we had the logo we might be able to move forward with the web-site quickly. Very much appreciated.

Below please find my comments and suggestions. Please view this as constructive support rather than criticism. I am sure there will be lots of different views!

Kind regards
Rolf.

Here is my feedback
- I like the principle design idea around centring on the O E and C
- If we want to improve I would change some of the following matters
--> Colour selection is a bit hard: perhaps a bit less black, more light and friendly colours, see OPNFV & opendaylight below
--> We could play with the colours also in the word Open Edge Computing and give Edge the same colour as the E bars in the logo.
--> The design elements have rather hard corners and shapes. Some more round edges may be more in vogue
--> Shorten the middle bar of the E on the right a bit further to avoid the one-ways street association
- The question is how that would work / look like with the name “Open Edge Computing”
- Perhaps reduce the size of the logo in relation to the Letters OpenEdgeComputing

Attached, please find a first attempt to put the logo on slides.

Hi Rolf,

I have a logo to share. I've also been laying down content onto pages for the site. It's just takin longer than I expected due to changes in OPNFV, last week, that were sucking the life out of me :)

I think you'll like the layout. But massaging the content is not trivial. It's time consuming.

Thanks,

Ash

Dear all,
Here is a quick summary of the discussion between Yun-Chao and myself regarding the outreach direction.
- We agree in principle that the Open Edge Initiative should target the platform providers (like OpenStack) AS WELL AS the application providers (like augmented reality tech providers). The initiative will coordinate the implementation of the requirements from the application providers by the platform providers and the service providers. This will give it a unique scope and target.
- The initiative will eventually need a paid membership scheme. There should be a small board say of 9 persons, three from the application providers, 3 from the platform / infrastructure providers and 3 from the service providers / operators (see attached picture for details)
- New members have to provide relevant value (not just money) to become a member. We actively reach out to relevant companies – right now without an offer for membership. In case we find companies who are willing to contribute, we will decide on a case by case basis.
- eventually we will need an upstream development toolset. However, they are relatively expensive to set-up
- eventually, we will have to build a sandbox infrastructure for developers to work. Also we will need a “test and compliancy lab”

Any comments or suggestions?

In order to achieve that we will need a simple web-page asap. I think we could put together the content relatively quickly. However, we need a bit of marketing support from people who can create a nice look and feel (including logo).
--> Has anybody access to marketing resources? Temporary availability, remote location and part-time working should all be fine.

What do you think?

Kind regards
Rolf.
