imtest responds with BYE Fatal error: can't write proc file

Hi there,

I am setting up cyrus imap for the first time.  can somebody please point me
to some documentation that discusses the following imtest errors?

# imtest -t "" localhost
S: * BYE Fatal error: can't write proc file
failure: prot layer failure
# telnet localhost imap
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.enabled.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
* BYE Fatal error: can't write proc file
Connection closed by foreign host.
