Since the files in /var/imap/proc are written to very often, you may see 
a performance gain (as well as the side-effect you want that stray files 
will get cleaned up on reboot) by putting this on a RAM partition.  For 
example, on my Solaris systems, /var/imap/proc is a symlink to 
/var/run/imap, on a tmpfs file system.
