SASL support in MySQL (Vintela's patch)

Hello!

I have tried this patch http://rc.vintela.com/topics/labs/mysql/ to add 
SASL support into MySQL. But it does not work and it seems to me that 
this is not my fault but patch author's. It looks like the SASL 
negotiation procedure does not conform to RFC.  May be some one has 
different experience with this patch?

I have managed to build mysql with this patch but this involved a lot of 
hacking (the clean patch is not yet ready) and I am not yet sure with 
the outcome's quality.
