sometimes these files get downloaded as compressed. When my students (or I) receive a compressed Alice file, I have them
<b><u>NOT</u></b> extract it (it makes a mess when they double click to open it). Open Alice first, then go to File -> Open World -> go to the file. Alice extracts the file automatically. I tell them this process is “going in the back door”.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
