
<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=us-ascii"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">CS4HS 2013 at Carnegie Mellon University<br>Pittsburgh, PA, USA<br>July 31 - August 2, 2013<br><br>The School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University is running its<br>8th Annual CS4HS (Computer Science for High School) summer workshop<br>at their main campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania July 31 - Aug 2<br>(pending funding). Registration is now open and seating is limited:<br><br><a href="http://www.cs.cmu.edu/cs4hs/summer13/">http://www.cs.cmu.edu/cs4hs/summer13/</a><br><br>The workshop includes activities that help high school teachers understand<br>the breadth of computer science beyond Java programming. (Teachers<br>in K-8 are welcome to apply if they are teaching computing related<br>courses and wish to expand their offerings soon.) We provide<br>hands-on activities that teachers can use in their classrooms to show their<br>students how to use computational thinking principles to solve problems,<br>explore the use of robots and other software to solve real-world problems,<br>and learn more about the various fields of study within computer science<br>including machine learning and human computer interaction. Teachers will<br>visit the local Google office in Pittsburgh to speak with Google engineers<br>about how to help prepare their students for jobs in the computing<br>industry, and there will be an open forum to discuss ways to improve<br>the perception and relevance of computing in K-12.<br><br>Teachers who wish to attend should apply as soon as possible. A $50<br>deposit is required to reserve a seat. (This deposit is refunded upon<br>completion of the workshop.) Free on-campus housing is available<br>for teachers that are accepted into the workshop and most meals<br>will be provided. Registration ends June 24, 2013.<br><br>For more information, please visit our CS4HS 2013 site at:<br><br><a href="http://www.cs.cmu.edu/cs4hs/summer13/">http://www.cs.cmu.edu/cs4hs/summer13/</a></body></html>
