 Adam,
In Alice, markers were designed  as limited objects, designed to reflect the functionality of markers in stage, tv, and film productions. Those markers , once set, are not intended to be moved, as references for preset locations for camera, characters, and props.

However, the moveable marker that you are looking for can be valuable, and when I have needed such an object, I have used the Axes object in the shapes gallery, set its properties (Opacity, Vehicle, etc) appropriately, and used it throughout the scene.
