alice-teacher Puzzle Trying To Combine Alice 3 and Adobe Premiere Pro

Bill, the other thing I forgot I was going to mention: I don’t think a linear change in size will work in Premier, if that’s what you’re doing. The size something looks is determined by dividing how far away it is, not by multiplying. If you call z the distance between the object and the camera, then the size of a 2-meter object will be 2/z. So as your z decreases, your visible size increases, but not linearly.

James,

Based on everyone's response, I believe you are correct that the issue is on the Premiere Pro side of it.

Bill, did you try using the face of a Box instead of a billboard? I thought maybe there was some difference in behavior between billboards and other objects, but I just tried it in Alice and nothing seems to be amiss.

I don’t know how to use Premiere, but it seems to me the error is in that part of the process.

I don’t think what you’re doing is unreasonable. It’s what the character interactions in the Myst series is based on. It’s also how they got Princess Leia into Rogue One.

Melanie and others,

Most recently I placed a sphere in the center of the billboard, and used the camera commands pointAt(Sphere) and move(FORWARD)

I've included a video clip to demonstrate. You can see the image, and then it switches to the video overlay.

The video gets too large, too fast, but then catches up by the end.

Don't pay any attention to what I'm rambling about. I was just using some old footage as a proof of concept.

It's very possible that I'm using Adobe Premiere wrong or that I'm trying to do something that isn't reasonably doable.

I appreciate all the feedback I've gotten so far, and this is just for fun, so not very important. 🙂

Hi Bill

Which procedure are you using: Camera MoveTo OR MoveTowards?

Hey all,

I'm working on a personal project for fun and have run into a roadblock.

I don't think there is a simple solution, but if anyone knew, it would be people on this list. 🙂

I'm zooming in on a "billboard" with a person's picture on it.

I want to record the program running and use Premiere Pro to overlay the picture with a video of the person talking. As the billboard gets closer, the video of the person gets larger.

The idea is to create the illusion that the person is inside the Alice 3 world.

My difficulty is that as the camera gets closer to the billboard, it doesn't increase the billboard size at a linear pace. It seems like it increases in size slowly but then speeds up as I get closer to it. I have animation style set to "begin and end abruptly".

Is there a way that I can move the camera towards the billboard at a variable speed so that the billboard increases in size linearly?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide,
Bill Barnum
