In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi Alice 3D instructors, Does anyone here use Apple computers with Alice? I?ve seen crashes happen when certain objects are added - especially when ?too many? items are in a scene. I can?t quite pen down why it happens. I know a student with a 2010 MacBook Air had to limit the scene to about 3 items otherwise a 4th one would get the ?Queen of Hearts Exception?. A student with a 2015 iMac would crash if any bi-pedal object was added. My guess is that there is a specific memory limit esp on Apple computers for Alice. The only requirement on Alice?s page is a 1GB ram video card. A 2010 MacBook Air only had 256MB of Video memory, so maybe that?s why? Thanks! In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Jeremy, I think you are seeing two different problems. The 2015 iMac should not have any problem with Alice 3. (Are you using Alice 3?) I currently use a 2014 MacBook Pro for Alice 3 all the time. There are occasional crashes but nothing that severe. I guess there must be something wrong with the installation. I don?t know about the 2010 MacBook Air. I don?t have any Macs that old to try. I had a 2012 MacBook Air a long time ago. I wasn?t using Alice 3 in those days in class, but I?m sure I tried it out at some point with that computer and didn?t see any problems. James ? In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi Jeremy, Sorry that I can not recommend a fix for the problems, but I understand your dilemma. When I taught Alice 3.0 in 2018 in a Computer Lab of Mac Mini's I would warn the students ahead of time, not to add too many objects to their scenes. If their project crashed or did not open, their back-up was inconsistent, mostly not working, but sometimes it did! Maybe programmers can create a fix since Memory was definitely an issue. Good-luck! I am writing because our latest windows release had some structural changes underlying that seem to have started reporting a new and unique bug. We have only gotten information for it from our automated reporting system in Alice and are looking for contacts for anyone that is seeng it to help us figure out what s going on and validate our fix. What we are seeing: It is happening on worlds that use say and think. It expresses itself when the play window is run and the error appears when the say or think bubble goes to disappear. It then prompts an error window that does allow people to share it with us that has error info that starts with the following content: com.jogamp.opengl.GLException: Method "glDeleteBuffers" not available at jogamp.opengl.gl4.GL4bcImpl.glDeleteBuffers(GL4bcImpl.java:10228) Alice will continue to run but the play window will be in a bad state and other things will happen. The only way we have been able to reproduce this has been to run a windows machine in safe mode forcing the machine to fall back to default graphics drivers. We are fairly certain this is not common practice for people so we are trying to figure out what may be happening out there in terms of a computer configuration that would be causing this same state. If you or any of your students have experienced this bug on a windows machine with a world using say/think we would love to hear from you. We have a fix that we believe addresses this. We would love to test further with anyone who has been experiencing this before releasing it. We apologize to anyone who has been running into this bug and are working hard to fix it and roll out that fix.
