I teach it as a stand-alone course, entirely online, to 'gifted' students in grades 4 to 6 who attend schools across Tasmania. I have been doing this for many years and have found the students really enjoy the challenge. I would be happy to speak with any other teachers who are interested. My district's charitable foundation just bought me an Oculus Rift S and workstation to use with Alice Programming. Now my IT people tell me that I have to give it back because Illinois is updating the SOPPA (student privacy) law and Facebook is not compliant. This is a hail mary. Is there any way I can use the Rift S with Alice without using Facebook. Is there some other option? Is there anyone to talk to? As of now you can elect not link it to a facebook account but they do say that will change within a year I believe. I was strongly hoping they would roll back this requirement for this very reason or provide a different avenue for schools. I will also do some testing to see if there is a way to put the rift s in developer mode or some other work around to get content to the device. I am curious if the required Oculus account that is required now is also not compliant? It is a challenge because I believe the HTC Vive and others all also require an account for their device or steam etc to power them? If anyone else has any input in this conversation I am very interested to hear. I will let everyone know if I hear anything from people at Oculus or Facebook.
